What is Route Shipping Protection? Why do I need it?

Why Add Route Shipping Protection to Your Order?
While some shipping services offer insurance, coverage is often limited and only provides a maximum of $100 — leaving you with a potential loss. Additionally, not all shipping services provide insurance. Stolen or mis-delivered packages are especially high risk as most shipping carriers may not approve a claim if your order is marked delivered, even if cannot be found. If your order gets lost, damaged, or stolen, it's important to have a reliable service like Route to provide you with full protection under any circumstance.
If you choose to opt out of Route Shipping Protection on your order, you limit your options to recover any losses. Life After Death Designs promises to pack your order with care, using the necessary, professional-grade packing materials, legible shipping labels, and marking eligible items as fragile. We cannot be held responsible for damages that occur in transit, or get lost or stolen. Damages that occur in transit can only be recovered by filing a claim. We highly, highly recommend adding on Route Shipping Protection for fast, reliable shipping insurance. We do not profit anything from this service; our primary intention is to ensure that you are covered.
How much does Route Shipping Protection Cost?
The cost of Route Shipping Protection is tiered based on the order cost:
Orders of $1 - $100 | Route’s fee is $0.98 |
Orders $100 - $500 | Route’s fee is 2.5% of total |
Orders of $500 - $1000 | Route’s fee is 2% of total |
Orders $1000+ | Route’s fee is 1.75% of total |
How Do I Add On Route Shipping Protection?
You don’t have to do anything! Route Shipping Protection is automatically calculated based on your order total and applied to your cart. Please note that it’s already applied so if you click the toggle off, you are effectively removing Route and it cannot be applied after you checkout.
How Does Route Work?
If your Route-protected order ends up lost, damaged, or stolen, Route’s expert support team helps ensure that your order gets replaced or refunded. Claims will be reviewed for approval within 1-2 business days from filing. If approved, Route will automatically issue you a refund or reorder you a replacement, depending on inventory availability and preference.
How Does Route Process Refunds or Reorders?
If your claim is approved, Route will automatically issue you a refund, or reorder a replacement, based on your preference.
- Refunds: When refunding an item, Route covers the subtotal, shipping, and taxes. The Route Premium cost will not be refunded.
- Reorders: Route will reorder the item(s), depending on in-stock availability. Unavailable item(s) will be refunded. Route will cover the cost of any reorders, including shipping, taxes, and Route Shipping Protection.

How Do I file a Claim for my Lost, Damaged, or Stolen Order?
If you insured your order with Route at checkout, you will receive a confirmation email from Route with a link to file a shipping issue. You can also file a shipping issue on Route’s website here. To file a claim, you will need your order number, your Route ID number, and the email address that was attached to the order. This information is provided in your order confirmation email and in the email from Route. Can’t find these emails? Try searching for “Route”, or “Life After Death Designs” in the search bar. Do I have to download the App?
Nope! You can file a claim on the website here if you do not wish to download the app. However, with the free Route App (linked above), you can visually track your orders in one place and can easily file a claim with their team if your shipment is deemed lost or stolen — with no movement in their tracking system after just 7 business days. Damaged shipments can also be reported immediately to Route.

If I opted out of Route, is there anything I can do?
If you chose to remove Route Package Protection, please contact us to see what your options are. We will check what shipping service you used and see if it's insured. We will also contact our shipping provider about the issue as well as inform our shipping platform to see if they can assist us. We have a few tricks up our sleeve, but unfortunately, it’s primarily in the shipping carriers hands. We highly, highly recommend Route as it's the best way to cover anything that can go wrong from the moment it leaves our facility and is safely in your hands.
